Vietnam's 2025 cashless payments valued at 28 times GDP

HANOI, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's total value of cashless payments in 2025 was about 28 times the country's gross domestic product (GDP), local daily VnEconomy reported Monday, citing the State Bank of Vietnam.

Compared with 2024, cashless payment transactions last year increased by 42.21 percent in volume and 22.65 percent in value, the report said.

As of December 2025, the number of individual payment accounts exceeded 232 million, up 13.68 percent year on year.

All higher education institutions and colleges in urban areas accepted cashless payments for tuition fees.

According to the National Statistics Office, Vietnam's GDP reached over 12.8 quadrillion Vietnamese dong in 2025 (about 514 billion U.S. dollars).
