2 dead, 3 hospitalized in S. Vietnam after drinking herbal-infused alcohol

HANOI, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Five residents in Vietnam's southern province of Dong Thap were hospitalized after drinking herbal-infused liquor, with two dead, local media VnExpress reported Sunday.

The group drank homemade liquor infused with Dischidia rafflesiana Wall., a wild plant believed to have several medicinal properties, on the night of Jan. 29, said the report.

Two of them died on Jan. 31 after falling ill the previous day. The three others felt unwell on Feb.1 and were taken to hospital for emergency treatment

Local police are investigating the case.
