FOCUS | Azur Air flight lands safely in China's Lanzhou after distress signal

An Azur Air flight carrying 246 people made an emergency landing in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province, after issuing a distress signal on Friday, the city airport said.

The ZF2998 flight from Phuket in Thailand to Barnaul of Russia landed safely at 4:51 p.m. at Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport. All 239 passengers and seven crew members on board were unharmed.

The emergency was caused by a right-side engine malfunction on the aircraft, a Boeing 757-200, according to the airport, which is organizing coordination efforts. (Xinhua/Zhang Zhimin)
