HANOI, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's golden population period is expected to end in 2036, giving way to an era of population aging and super-aging, according to a population forecast released by the National Statistics Office on Tuesday.
The golden population period is defined as a stage in which every two people of working age, ranging from 15 to 64, support one dependent person aged under 15 or aged 65 and above, the office said.
Over the 50-year period from 2024 to 2074, Vietnam's population is projected to grow by 2.5 percent under a low-fertility scenario, in which the average number of children per woman is 1.45, by 12.7 percent under a medium-fertility scenario with 1.85 children per woman, and by 17 percent under a high-fertility scenario with 2.01 children per woman.
Under the three scenarios, the country's population is expected to reach 103.9 million, 114.2 million and 118.5 million, respectively.
