HANOI, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has proposed building two new airports in the south-central and Central Highlands regions to enhance regional connectivity, local daily Voice of Vietnam reported Wednesday.
The move also aims to boost tourism, logistics and create new growth drivers for the regions, the report said.
Under the plan, Mang Den Airport will be constructed in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum with an estimated investment of nearly 5 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 190 million U.S. dollars) and a planned land area of about 350 hectares.
Van Phong Airport will be built in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, with an estimated investment of more than 9.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 350 million dollars) and a planned land area of over 497 hectares.
With the addition of these two airports, Vietnam is expected to have 33 airports nationwide by 2030, with a total designed capacity of 297 million passengers.
