HANOI, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese citizens will no longer be able to use passports for domestic transactions from Jan. 1, 2026, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

The new regulations, outlined in circulars issued by the State Bank of Vietnam, mandate that customers present chip-based ID cards or e-IDs for all banking services, including payments, withdrawals, and card operations.

The central bank noted that this process aims to ensure accuracy, strengthen fraud and forgery prevention, and standardize data across the entire banking system.
