Vietnam's electricity consumption hits record high amid prolonged heatwave

HANOI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's nationwide electricity consumption hit a record high for this year on Wednesday amid a prolonged heatwave affecting many parts of the country, local daily Nhan Dan reported Thursday.

According to the National Power System and Market Operator Company, more than 1.1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity were consumed that day.

The national power system's peak load reached 52,487 megawatts at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, setting a new operational record for 2026 and equivalent to 95.5 percent of the peak level recorded in 2025.

As the peak of the dry season approaches, residents and businesses have been advised to save electricity and use it efficiently.
