VIENTIANE, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Laos has recorded a trade surplus of 202 million U.S. dollars in January, with total imports and exports exceeding 1.5 billion dollars.

In January, Laos exported goods worth more than 886 million dollars, a 36 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Imports totaled approximately 684 million dollars, resulting in a trade surplus of about 202 million dollars, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Thursday.

The strong start to the year reflects improved export performance and signals greater economic stability and healthier cash flow.

Alloys and gold bars were Laos' leading export items in January, followed by electrical appliances and equipment. China, Vietnam and Thailand remained the country's main export markets.
