(260208) -- BANGKOK, Feb. 8, 2026 (Xinhua) -- A staff member counts ballots at a counting station for the House of Representatives election in Bangkok, Thailand, on Feb. 8, 2026. Thailand's House of Representatives election started at 8:00 a.m. local time on Sunday.

About 50 million eligible voters went to polling stations across the Southeast Asian country to elect a total of 500 members of the House of Representatives.

Polling stations will close at 5 p.m. local time, with unofficial results expected later at night.

Final official vote counts are required to be released no later than April 9. The new parliament must convene a session within 15 days to elect a speaker, after which the House of Representatives will vote to select the new prime minister. (Xinhua)
