Vietnam's southern hub to operate nearly 190 km of metro by 2030

HANOI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's southern hub Ho Chi Minh City plans to operate 187 km of metro lines by 2030, under a newly issued resolution aimed at accelerating the development of the urban rail network, local media Tuoi Tre reported Tuesday.

The city aims for urban rail to account for 20 to 30 percent of public transport demand by 2030, rising to around 60 percent as the city continues to expand its metro network to up to 700 km by 2045, the report said.

The city's first and only metro line, spanning nearly 20 km, has served about 19 million passengers since it began operation one year ago, averaging more than 52,000 passengers per day, the report added.
