HANOI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Flooding and rain-induced landslides in central Vietnam have halted railway operations, forcing the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) to halt 25 passenger trains, the Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.

The railway operator announced the cancellation of a series of North-South services, with affected passengers eligible for refunds or itinerary changes, the report said.

Freight operations along the North-South railway line have also suffered severe disruptions, including six cargo trains cancelled and 27 others stranded along the route.

The VNR's total economic losses from the flooding were estimated at nearly 10 billion Vietnamese dong (about 398,000 U.S. dollars).
