HANOI, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- The 13th Communist Party of the Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) convened its eighth plenum in national capital Hanoi on Monday under the chair of General Secretary of the CPVCC Nguyen Phu Trong.
In his opening remarks, Trong put forth requests for members of the 13th Party Central Committee at the meeting.
He said the plenum is expected to consider and decide on a number of important, complex, and sensitive issues key to accomplishing political tasks of the 13th tenure, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Emphasizing the importance of the meeting in the context of a complicated world, Trong said the Committee should carefully study the reports and define the bottlenecks to address in the near future.
According to Trong, Party Central Committee members need to identify main targets, tasks, and measures to continue reform and further improve the quality and effectiveness of social policies to better meet people's demands and aspirations.
Personnel planning for the Party Central Committee in the 14th tenure is also top on the agenda at the meeting, which will run until Sunday.
