PHNOM PENH, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced on Friday that 72,016, or 65.65 percent, of the total 109,695 candidates passed their annual high school graduation exam.
A ministry's press statement said that 1,753 applicants gained Grade A, 5,215 others earned Grade B, and the remainder passed with Grade C, D and E.
The Grade 12 students took the exam on Dec. 27 and 28 in the subjects of earth and environment, geography, history, biology, foreign language, Khmer literature, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and morality-civics.
The passing rate in the 2021 exam was slightly lower than a 68.62 percent passing rate in the 2019 test, the statement said.
In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, such an exam was canceled and the government allowed all Grade 12 students to pass their exit exam automatically.
The exam is a prerequisite for high school graduates to pursue their studies at university levels.
