BANGKOK -- Thailand announced Friday that it will reduce the mandatory quarantine period for people entering the country to 10 days from two weeks in its latest effort to support the ailing tourism sector and economic recovery.
The relaxation, starting April 1, will not apply to visitors coming from countries with cases of COVID-19 variant strains, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). (Thailand-Quarantine)

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday 7,103 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections, the highest daily jump since the disease emerged in the Southeast Asian country in January 2020, raising the total to 648,066.
The death toll climbed to 12,900 after 13 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added that 390 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 561,902. (Philippines-COVID-19)

MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan -- Six militants have been confirmed dead and two others injured as military planes pounded a Taliban hideout in Alishing district of Afghanistan's eastern Laghman province on Thursday, said an army statement released here Friday.
The Taliban militants were gathered in Manjan area of the restive Alishing district to attack security checkpoints but the fighting planes in pre-emptive sorties struck the militants, killing six on the spot and injuring two others, the statement said. (Afghanistan-Airstrike)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,514,331 on Friday as 39,726 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.
